Waystone Developments Ltd is delighted to have received planning permission for the creation of an engineered flood alleviation channel at Shipley Lakeside following a successful planning appeal.
The proposal had been previously rejected by Amber Valley’s Planning Board despite the recommendation to approve by its Planning Officer. In allowing the appeal, the appointed Planning Inspector agreed with Waystone’s submission, that the engineering works were considered to be appropriate development in the Green Belt and would therefore accord with the National Planning Policy Framework in this regard.
Furthermore, the Inspector agreed with Waystone’s submission that the development of the channel and associated works are essential to the safety of the public and would not result in any significant harm. The new channel will effectively contain any breach flow from the upstream Osborne’s Pond offering a holistic solution to mitigate against the risk of breach/collapse of the dam.
